Product Review: Body Glide

Imagine this: It is a beautiful summer morning. You wake up, eat breakfast, put on your running shoes and head out the door for a relaxing morning training run. You’re running along with not a care in the world and all of a sudden you begin to feel a painful irritation between or legs. You spot, look, and oh no you have begun to chafe!

One of the most common and painful issues that I deal with as a runner is chafing. I chafe between my thighs, my arms, and along every single one of my shirt, pant, and sock lines. For months I was desperate to figure out a way to help with the chafing and then I learned about Body Glide’s Anti-Chafing Balm. This was probably one of the greatest discovery I have made as a runner!

The most common symptoms of chafing is a painful stinging or burning sensation, and usually the area is red and raw. Chafing is caused by a repeated motion, specifically, skin rubbing against loose fabric or other skin. For runners chafing most often occurs around the bra lines (for women), nipples (for me), inner thighs and under arms. Sweat and moisture (from rain) can worsen chafing. It can also be caused by poorly fitting clothes.

This is where Body Glide is a miracle!! Before heading out on a run, you can take the stick of Body Glide and “glide” the areas where you chafe. Body Glide goes on smooth and does not feel wet, slick or greasy like Vaseline would. Body Glide is resistant to perspiration and water, however, it will not clog your pores and it is also hypoallergenic.

I always have at least four sticks of Body Glide laying around at all times. I keep a stick in my car during race season, and always have a stick packed in my “gear check” bag on race day.

Where Can You Buy Body Glide?
Dick’s Sporting Goods – $9.99/stick
Amazon.com – $7.50-$15.00/stick (depending on size)
Specialty Running Stores

Not only is Body Glide great for running, it has many practical uses in your daily life as well. Both my husband and I use it daily to help prevent chafing and blisters when working outside in the yard, wearing high heels, playing golf, etc.

Product Review: Race Bibs & Medal Displays

While trying to accomplish my goal of running a race in all 50 states I have done hours of research on which races in each state are fun, interesting and unique. It is no fun traveling hours to run a boring loop course! In addition to what the course looks like there are two other criteria which I deem important! First, what type of shirt does the entry fee include and; second, what does the medal look like?

A cool looking-unique medal, also known are hardware, is imperative in order to get me to enter a race! Last night while at a fellow runner’s house, I was checking out all of his race medals and bids. And I came to two very fast conclusions. First, I HAVE to run a Disney run because their medals are just insanely cool and; second, even though I thought about it I will never run the New York Marathon. Their medals are one of the worst looking medals I have ever seen!

As fellow runners will understand the longer you run the more race bibs and medals you begin to collect and boy-oh-boy can they accumulate quickly. I am runner who cannot part with any of my race bibs regardless of the race! For the past two years I have just been piling them up in the bottom drawer of my dresser and my medals are spread throughout the house hanging on the corners of random pictures.

Knowing the wonderful world of the internet, which has everything, I knew there had to be a better way to display and keep all of my racing bibs and medals! Setting off on a google search I hit a jackpot! After spending a few hours researching my options I settled on two different options and neither one of them disappoint!

The first is a more “handmade” approach made by the Running On The Wall shop on Etsy.com.

There you can get medal and bib hangers in a variety of colors and styles, including options to display individual races on a single display with a photo!

The second is more of a modern approach made by Allied Medal Displays.com.

These medal hangers are just plain cool and offer a variety of options including motivational sayings, cityscapes and the option to create a personalized medal hanger.

I know we are quickly approaching the holiday season, but if you are looking for the last final gift for that avid runner in your life, a bib or medal hanger from one of these two stores would make the perfect gift!!
